Most concrete repair contractors are appointed after the specification has been written. CRS is appointed before as well as after. Where a client, engineer or asset manager needs specialist contractor input at the assessment, specification or tender stage of a project, our Specialist Consultancy service delivers it.
The commercial value of getting the specification right is significant. A repair specification that reflects site reality avoids the cost escalations that come from unforeseen conditions on site. A scope of works that has been through a specialist contractor’s eye captures the buildability constraints, temporary works implications and phasing challenges that a desk-based specification often misses. A bill of quantities prepared with delivery experience produces defensible pricing rather than optimistic estimates.
CRS provides these services within an engineer’s framework or directly to a client. We do not act as the engineer of record. Where a structural engineer is appointed on the scheme, we contribute specialist contractor input to their design and specification. Where a client engages CRS at pre-appointment stage for scope development, we produce documentation that can then go to competitive tender or direct appointment.
The services covered include scope of works development, bill of quantities preparation, specialist tender assistance, British Standard compliant test and investigation specifications, repair specification writing (manufacturer-agnostic across Sika, Weber, Mapei and others), budget estimating, and technical advisory including CDM support.
There is no conflict where CRS produces a specification and a separate contractor delivers it. Where clients want the option to competitively tender the works, we produce specifications and BoQs that are designed to be tendered against, not to lock in a captive contract. Where clients want continuity and appoint CRS for both the specification and the delivery, the same team carries the scheme through.
